"Fortune Favours the Brave": Wire, NYC, March 2020

March 12, 2020

"Fortune favours the brave," Wire bassist/co-vocalist Graham Lewis promised the virus-wary audience in NYC's Music Hall of Williamsburg, March 11, 2020, days before the city would formally go into lockdown for COVID-19. Amanda pointed out that this English band was post-punk pretty much from the beginning of punk rock itself -- their first album was 1977's obtuse yet succinct "Pink Flag." Their angsty-noise pop has been the vital connective tissue to later bands like Sonic Youth, Butthole Surfers, Dandy Warhols, Oasis.
